As chair of the DRI Diversity Committee I want to make you aware of DRI's Law Student Diversity Scholarship. A number of years ago the DRI leadership examined its membership demographic and found that it was weighted heavily to white males. This membership demographic did not reflect the composition of the profession and law schools, which featured growing numbers of women of all races and individuals of color.
The DRI leadership at that time made a conscious decision to take a number of steps to attract more women lawyers and lawyers of color to DRI. It was their opinion, an opinion that its hold today, that in order for DRI to maintain its viability to future generations, it needed to increase organizational participation by this group of lawyers who were vastly under-represented. The establishment of two $10,000.00 law school diversity scholarships is one facet of a comprehensive plan to engage more women lawyers and lawyers of color in DRI.
